"I grew up not having any knowledge of what mental health was until I began experiencing anxiety and depression in high school and not knowing what these feelings were or how to handle them. I had a stigma that therapy showed weakness and I didn’t want to have to pay someone to listen to me when I had people in my life that would. After years of being encouraged to just try it out because it would be helpful for me to deal with the way I was feeling, I finally did. And I got really fortunate to have been set up with Shelly. I felt comfortable right away and was able to open up easily. Which I know is not always everyone’s experience. I was provided tools to positively and successfully deal with my thoughts and feelings. She helped me get to the root of where these thoughts and feelings were stemming from to better understand myself and how to reroute the way I deal with things that may cause me anxiety before it starts rather than when I’m already in the thick of it.
